The state patrol released more details, Monday, in the weekend crash in Rock Creek that killed Joel Horn, 44, of St. Paul.
Horn died after his car was broadsided by a SUV driven by a Rock Creek resident. The accident occurred just before 10 a.m at the intersection of Highway 70 and County Road Three.
According to the report from the Minnesota State Patrol, Mary L. Willmus, 47, of Rock Creek, was driving a 2005 Chevy Tahoe. The report says she failed to yield and broadsided a 2003 Saturn Vue driven by Horn.
Willmus suffered minor injuries. A three-year-old boy was the passenger in Wilmus’ vehicle. He suffered non-life threatening injuries. Both were taken to the North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale.
Willmus and the three-year-old boy were both wearing their seatbelts. It is unknown whether Horn was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

In regards to your story about my brothers death on Sat. I am a little annoyed about the line stating It is unknown whether Horn was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. I know it was probably unintentional, but this line seems to imply that he may have survived had he been wearing it, since the Woman who ran the stop sign and her child were wearing theirs. Let me assure you He WAS. I was a non seatbelt wearer for years except for when I would go somewhere with Joel and his three now fatherless kids, an He would always make me wear a seat belt before we drove off. I now am a religious seat belt wearer thanks to that kind of encouragement. Thank you. sincerely Neil Horn.

Neil-
I think you were being rather nice in your response to the person that wrote this article! I won’t add anymore at this time as I’ve been commenting on the www.pinecity.com website. Neil, I’m so glad that our now deceased brother swayed you to wearing seatbelts, as I always thought you crazy for not! So, I believe this solidifies whether our brother Joel was wearing a belt or not. Sonja Horn. Edmonds,WA.
