NW Wisconsin Local Unemployment Numbers for July

The Wisconsin of Department of Workforce Development release local July unemployment numbers on Wednesday. Unemployment rates decreased in 52 of Wisconsin’s 72 counties in July, increased in 8 and remained the same in 12. Of the counties that saw increases, only Marquette County, which climbed 1.4 percentage points, had an increase of more than one percentage point. Rusk County recorded the greatest decrease in rate over the month, down 1.5 percentage points.

On an annual basis, 41 counties recorded decreases, while 20 had increases, and 11 had no change. The greatest increase occurred in Marquette County, up 1.3 percentage points, while Sawyer County, which declined 0.8 percentage points, experienced the greatest decrease. Forty-nine counties had rates less than five percent in July, while 23 recorded rates of 5.0 percent or higher. All but five Wisconsin counties recorded rates lower than the national unemployment rate of 6.0 percent in July
