The Red Cross blood drive in Pine City Wednesday was a success, says event coordinator Jim Zaun. The donors gave 65 units of blood which is 15 less than the goal, but Zaun says the summer is ofter a slow time for donations.
The Evangelical Free Church hosted the drive in the lighthouse. Donors came out early with nearly 20 units given in the first hour. Nicole Quistorff is a team supervisor with the red cross. She too was pleased with Wednesday’s turnout.

Zaun says all the donors were over the age of 17, but believes once school starts there will be more 16-year-old donors taking advantage of the new state law that allows them to give with parental permission.
