The Chisago County Attorney’s office may press criminal charges in the fatal car crash that killed Isanti resident Neil Stoeckel, 58.

In a press release issued on Wednesday, the attorney’s office says that both local law enforcement and Minnesota State Patrol are investigating the crash that happen at the intersection of U.S. Hwy 8 and Chisago County 23/Pioneer Rd in Chisago County. Once the initial investigation is completed and the accident reconstruction report is finished by the Minnesota State Patrol, the Chisago County Attorney’s Office will likely receive the case for review for possible criminal charges. The investigation and accident reconstruction report may take up to six to eight weeks.

Stoeckel was working as a driving instructor when Elizabeth Miller, 61, from Turtle Lake broadsided the vehicle. Stoeckel was in the car’s passenger seat (driver was a 15 year old student) and passed away from internal injuries at the St. Croix Regional Medical Center.
