Congressman Jim Oberstar received a special award Tuesday for his efforts in protecting the water quality of the Great Lakes. Izaak Walton League’s Great Lakes Committee presented Oberstar with its annual Great Lakes Protection Award. Oberstar says he is greatly honored by the recognition.
Oberstar receives the award because of his work on the Great Lakes Compact, which is an agreement by the Great Lakes states and Canada to protect water quality and prevent water from being diverted out of the Great Lakes Basin. However, the Congressman says the job is not yet complete.
