Our spring sports schedule gets underway this evening with a fast pitch softball game going down in Grantsbrug between the Pirates and the Pine City Dragons. The first pitch is at 5pm and the game will be heard on SAM1057 with Jesse Logan on the call.
Both teams are opening their spring schedules this afternoon after weeks of preparing. The Pirates had a phenomenal 20-game winning streak to start the season last year before they suffered a disappointing loss to Hurley in the sectionals to finish with a 20-1 record. Grantsburg was also 20-1 in 2010, and of course won the State Tournament back in 2009 for their second State Championship.
The Dragons were a .500 ball club last year and will look to improve on that mark. Catch the game on SAM1057 Monday night at 5pm.

This offseason Twins general manager Terry Ryan was adamant that if Justin Morneau was healthy enough to play, he was healthy enough to play first base. Things could be changing.

On Wednesday night, the Braham Bombers girls basketball team’s quest to repeat as State Champions came to an end. The girls were able to get past the Esko Eskimos in a thrilling double overtime win last Thursday night in the Section 7 2A Final, but tonight New Richland H-E-G was just too much. The New Richland H-E-G Panthers are the only undefeated girls team in Class 2A, with a 31-0 record. The Bombers lost 75-45.
Braham’s Rebekah Dahlman keeps adding more accolades and more records to her already impressive resume. Dahlman is now the all-time career points leader in Minnesota girls basketball history with 3895 points, she scored 29 points in the game. Dahlman has recently been announced as the Pioneer Press girls basketball player of the year. Last Thursday night she hit a crucial 3-pointer to tie up the Esko game in the first overtime, and on that shot, Dahlman also set the girls state record for most points in a season. This is the Bombers fourth straight trip to the State Tournament.
Join Dan Hinrichs and Jesse Logan for the replay of Wednesday’s game from Target Center. The replay between Braham and New Richland H-E-G can be heard here!
