THE GAME WILL STREAM LIVE TONIGHT HERE ON REDROCKONAIR.COM

The Grantsburg Pirates have made some big changes to their football program over the past few months, and anticipation is growing. Earlier this year, long time head coach Keith Lehne stepped down and former varsity girls coach Adam Hale was handed the reigns.

Hale says he’s installing a new spread offense this fall for the Pirates, who seem to be reloaded with quick offensive weapons on the outside and an experienced athlete at the quarterback position.

Cumberland also runs a very aggressive spread formation, so it sounds like the game we’re calling as our season opener is going to be fun.

Coach Adam Hale discussed the changes and previewed the Cumberland game with our Jesse Logan.

Lawmakers have gathered in St. Paul today to pass a $180 million relief package for damage done by the flood in Northeastern Minnesota back in June. Extensive damage was done to parts of our Minnesota listening area in Pine, Carlton, and Aitkin Counties. Other regions affected in the storm and other area windstorms are also being included in the relief bill.

House DFL Leader Paul Thissen offered these comments on the special session. Things are expected to go quite smoothly, and the session is likely going to conclude later on Friday

Dragons OC Fort Talks Team, QB Battle, Scrimmage Expectations

Friday, August 24th, 2012

On Saturday, football teams around our Minnesota listening area will be scrimmaging in preparation for the 2012 season. In Pine City, the Dragons will host a scrimmage with Ogilvie, St. Croix Lutheran, and Duluth Marshall that starts at 9am.

In talking with the Dragons coaches, it’s clear that the starting lineup on both offense and defense is still up in the air. That means the scrimmage is going to be another opportunity for guys to showcase their skills. OC Nate Fort visited with our Jesse Logan recently and said that he figures the Dragons will feature a rushing offense that gives a lot of players some carries. At the quarterback position, Fort also told us a bit more about the two guys who are in the running to replace departed senior quarterback Brickre Fisher.
