On August 14, the Pine City Auditorium will be transformed into a historic movie house for one night only. The curtain will come up on a series of short films by award-winning writer/director Zach Hammill, a Los Angeles-based filmmaker who is a native of Pine City.”The Films of Zach Hammill” will feature variety of movies during the two-hour event, including “The Language of Freedom,” a documentary about members of Fort Snelling’s 451.

Eastern Minny Playoffs Top four (4) finishers advance to region 1C Tournament hosted at Hinckley the weekends of August 7-8th and 14-15th. Blake Karas, pitcher for the Hinckley Knights who is out with an ACL tear, gave some insight into the tournament, “Isanti and Princeton look to be the favorites out of the Eastern Minny to compete with Forest Lake and Champlin out of the Metro Minny. I think if the Knights Play well in the tournament we could be a potential sleeper. I just wish I could help the team but am probably out for another three weeks.”

A Saturday evening has left 21-year-old Timothy D. Koffler in critical condition and injured 48-year-old Pine City native Ruth E. Pierce. The crash occured at about 8pm on Hwy 70 and Government Road. According to Minnesota State Patrol, Koffler was traveling northbound on Government Road when he broadsided Ruth Pierce’s car that was travelling eastbound on Hwy 70. [...]

Strong winds and heavy rainfall pushed through East Central Minnesota and Northwestern Wisconsin Tuesday night, leaving several Rush City residents with uprooted trees and broken branches. Last night, a severe thunderstorm warning was issued until 7pm, while a tornado watch was issued until 11pm. Although no twisters were spotted, winds in some areas reached 71 miles per hour. The hardest hit area left damaged buildings, knocked-down powerlines and trees near Balsam Lake, Wisconsin.

The new head of the Minnesota Department of Human rights James Kirkpatrick has only held the postition since June 1st and has already accused at least five bars and restaurants in the state of discriminating against men with “Ladies Nights” promotions. The ever popular “Ladies Nights” promotions typically offer free or reduced priced drinks only to women for the duration of the promotion. Kirkpatrick is accusing these establishments of denying men the right for full enjoyment of the establishments goods on the basis of gender.

The National Weather Service in Duluth has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning as well as a Tornado Watch for the following Counties: Warnings: Anoka, Benton, Chippewa, Chisago, Isanti, Kanabec, Kandiyohi, Meeker, Mille Lacs, Morrison, Pine, Redwood, Renville, Sherburne, Stearns, Wright, and Yellow Medicine counties.
