Comprehensive Plan Talks Begin

Pine City is coming together to plan for the future. A group of about 50 people met earlier this week at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church to begin work on updating the city’s comprehensive plan.

Travis Gryczkowski Travis Gryczkowski, 21, of Cambridge will be laid to rest on on Thursday, April 29, 2010 at 11 a.m. at Harvest Christian Center in Isanti. A visitation will be held from 9:00 – 11:00 A.M. at Harvest Christian Center. The Strike-Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

State Patrol Lieutenant Eric Roeske says this is deadliest weekend in recent memory.

Pine City Impresses at State Speech Meet

NisleyStatePine City High School had three students compete at the Class A State Speech Tournment at Gustavus Adolphus College over the weekend. Aaron Nisley qualified to finals for a 6th place medal in serious prose. Trevor Clune and Josh Palmer tied for 13th in dramatic duo.

Six people were killed Sunday morning in a head on collision near Cambridge. The Minnesota State Patrol identified four of the passengers in the Grand Am as Travis Buchan, 17, of Cambridge, Travis Gryczkowski, 21, Cambridge, Stephen Kendryna, 16, of Cambridge, and Kelsee Blackledge, 15. All four were pronounced dead. None of the four were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.

Howe Becomes Siren’s First WIAA Scholar Athlete

Siren High School’s Sarah Howe became the first Dragon in school history to win the WIAA Scholar Athlete Award. She is one of 16 girls and 16 boys who will be recognized at an award ceremony Sunday, May 2 at the Westwood Conference Center in Wausau.

Wisconsin to Receive $6.2 Million in USDA Water System Assistance

MADISON – Governor Jim Doyle announced today that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has provided nearly $6.2 million in grants and loans to help the Village of Solon Springs and the Village of Stetsonville upgrade their wastewater and water systems. Most of the funding for the projects will come through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
