The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) reminds riders that Minnesota law prohibits the riding of Class 1 all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) in ditches south of the agriculture line between April 1 and Aug. 1. This does not apply to ATVs licensed and used for agricultural purposes. Class 2 ATVs cannot be operated in ditches at any time. The agricultural line runs roughly from Moorhead to Taylors Falls along Highway 10 and Highway 95.

When Pine City area resident Alana Petersen was working as Congressman Jim Oberstar’s Political Director and Director of Field Operations in 2005, she was in a serious car crash on Highway 70. Petersen, who was eight months pregnant at the time, was driving with her two-year-old son when a man went around one of the highway’s curves too fast and struck her vehicle. The crash left Petersen hospitalized.
Congressman Oberstar (left) said he never forgot the call when he found out Petersen was injured. The two spoke after the crash and Petersen recalls Oberstar saying “You’ve got to do something about that [highway].”

A traditional group of Lutherans, who separated from area churches over the contentious homosexual issue last summer, voted on Palm Sunday to relocate their congregation to Grantsburg.
In a vote of 50 to 41, members of New Hope Lutheran Church decided to move from the school auditorium in Siren to the Mark Harmon building on State Road 70.
The congregation plans to build a traditional church building in the Grantsburg area in about two years.
