Eighth Annual Pine County Master Gardener Horticulture Day

Bud Markhart“Let’s Get Growing” is the theme of the Eighth Annual Pine County Master Gardener Horticulture Day on Saturday, March 27th from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Pine City High School located south of Pine City on MN Highway #61. Registration, exhibits and coffee begin at 8 a.m.

“The Importance of Biodiversity in Organic Gardening” will be the keynote presentation at 9:00 a.m. by Bud Markhart, University of Minnesota professor, organic gardener and contributing writer to the Northern Gardener magazine. Bud will cover why organic gardening works, nature’s system, biodiversity in soils, crop rotations and using insects.

Rush City Updates Tobacco Ordinance

Rush City is sending a message to local businesses, if you sell cigarettes to minors, you will pay. The city council agreed Monday to update its tobacco ordinance which will penalize not only businesses but individual employees who allow youths to buy tobacco products.

Jobs Bill Passes House-Senate, but Not Governor’s Desk

The Minnesota House and Senate both approved the Capital Investment Jobs Bill on Monday. The billion dollar bill, which including several local projects, is expected to create thousands of jobs throughout the state. However, Governor Tim Pawlenty has promised to veto the legislation, telling legislators to balance the $1.2 billion state deficit first.

The Hospital has long participated in the events and activities of the festival, with members of the Kanabec Hospital team serving in volunteer roles as EMTs, soup stop workers and in countless other ways.
