Second of Three Arrested in Hinckley Driving Instructor Beating

Dwaine Palmer after the attackThe second of the three men accused of beating Hinckley driving instructor Dwaine Palmer was arrested on Friday. Aaron Jay Lagarde, 18, is currently being held in the Pine County Jail. Charges were filed against him and Johnathon Cody Thomas, 20, in January. Each face five charges in case.

Minnesota Delegation Sends Letter to help protect Minnesota’s Rural Hospitals

Washington, D.C. – Today the Minnesota Congressional delegation jointly called for Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius to reverse new interpretation of Medicare rules that disadvantage rural hospitals in Minnesota by changing the requirements for physician supervision. The recent rule clarification was issued by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and was made effective January 2010.

Siren Native Captures Silver in Vancover

Image: NBColympics.com Siren native Molly Engstrom and the U.S. Women’s Hockey team fell short of gold. They take home the silver medal in Vancover after losing 2-0 to Canada on Thursday. Engstrom has silver and bronze Olympic medals. She scored three goals during this year’s games.

Fundraiser for Joshua Jones

A benefit fundraiser will be held for Joshua Jones, 7, and his family on Saturday at the Time Out Sports Bar and Grill. Jones has been at the University of Minnesota Hospital since January 20th battling Guillain-Barre Syndrome, a rare disorder which his body’s immune system attacks his nerves. He is paralyzed from the waist down and in his right arm and is losing function of his left arm. Saturday’s fundraiser will include a taco feed, beer bust and silent auction. Events begin at 2 p.m.

Pine Tech 27th Annual Gun Show

Pine Technical College is hosting its 27th annual gun show this weekend. The event kicks off Saturday at 8 a.m. and will stay open until 5 p.m. Sunday, hours are from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. More than 120 vendors are expected to be on hand to feature the latest in firearms innovations and interesting historical pieces.
