Vigil for Bauer and Other Detained Hikers

HikersA vigil is planned for Wednesday in Minneapolis for Shane Bauer, Josh Fattal, and Sarah Shourd. The three are detained in Iran after accidentally crossing the border while hiking in Iraq. Bauer’s mother Cindy Hickey is a resident of Pine City.

NW Wisconsin Mayor and Former Legislator Dies

Harvey Stower, the mayor of Amery and former Wisconsin state legislator, passed away Tuesday from cardiac arrest. Stower was a native of Frederic.

Rush City Correctional Facility Donates to Black Dog Hill Shelter

Offender members of the Minnesota Correctional Facility (MCF)-Rush City’s Restorative Justice Committee donated $281 to the Black Dog Hill Women’s Shelter in Chisago County. The money was raised through contributions from the offender population.

Burnett County Cancels Flu Vaccine Clinics

Flu vaccination clinics scheduled for Thursday and Monday in Burnett County are canceled. The reason is because of a delay in the shipments of the vaccine. Public Information Officer for Burnett County Public Health, Dawn Sargent, explains.
