Local health organizations are receiving funding for the fight against tobacco and obesity. The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) has awarded 39 grants to Minnesota communities to help lower the number of Minnesotans who use tobacco or who are obese or overweight. Kanabec-Pine Community Health Board is receiving $392,000 for Phase one planning and assessment. The Isanti-Mille-Lacs Community Health is the recipient of $523,000, and Chisago County will get $416,000 for its planning and assessment.

The rail crossing at Second Avenue East in Pine City is officially closing. The Pine City Council gave the final stamp of approval at a special meeting on Wednesday. However, the decision did not come without some debate.

Pine County commissioner and board member of the Northern Lights Express (NLX) Rail Alliance, Doug Carlson, is telling the NLX board not to forget about Pine County. The NLX Alliance met Wednesday in Pine City at the Pine County Courthouse. There, Carlson encouraged the board to strongly consider making Sandstone a stop on the proposed rail line from Minneapolis to Duluth.

Police are searching for a St. Croix Falls woman who was last seen on Friday. Rose Marie Bly, 21, went missing on the way to Cushing to meet her cousin, according to her husband. She has not been seen since.
