Efforts Stepped Up Against Public Assistance Fraud

Chisago County Attorney Janet Reiter and Sheriff Todd Rivard have announced that they have increased their emphasis on the investigation and prosecution of public assistance fraud in Chisago County. Early this year Health and Human Services Director Mary Sheehan entered into an agreement with the Sheriff’s Department whereby Sheriff Rivard would assign an investigator to specifically perform the function of ferreting out recipient fraud in the public assistance programs administered by Chisago County.

Local Sports Show Coming to Airwaves

WCMP/WXCX Radio is now featuring a weekly regional sports show, called Red Rock Radio Replay, beginning this fall sports season. The opening show kicks off Thursday, September 3rd prior to the Moose-Lake v. Pine City and Mora v. Long Prairie Grey-Eagle football games on 1350-WCMP AM and Cool Country 100.9 WCMP-FM. Red Rock Radio Replay will then re-air on Cool Country 100.9 WCMP-FM, Classic Hits 105.7 WXCX, and 1350 WCMP-AM on Friday, September 4th at 6:30 p.m.

Beginner Band Registration set for September 15

The Pine City Schools Music Department is currently registering new fifth and sixth grade students for band. Lessons are available to all students at Pine City Elementary, St. Mary’s School, and home school students. Registration night be held on Tuesday, September 15 from 2:45 to 6:00pm at Pine City Elementary School. At this time you can learn more about scheduling lessons and renting an instrument.

School Supply Distributions in Pine County

Monday in Pine County, there will are three school supply distributions. One is in Pine City at the Presbyterian Church. The others are at the First Lutheran Church in Hinckley and the Askov Memorial Drive Bible Fellowship Church located one mile north of Askov on Hwy. 23.

Frost Advisory Issued

Polk County is one of several in western Wisconsin and Minnesota that is under a frost advisory. Parts of Chisago and Kanabec counties were also included. The advisory, which went into effect Sunday night, is set to expire Monday morning. Highs ranged in the mid to low 60s Sunday in the areas under the advisory, with lows getting down below freezing in some parts.
