Twins Announce All-Metrodome Team

MINNEAPOLIS-ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Minnesota Twins, in conjunction with Wendy’s Restaurants, today announced that legends Kirby Puckett, Kent Hrbek and Frank Viola will join current Twins Joe Mauer, Joe Nathan and Justin Morneau on the All-Metrodome Team as part of the team’s ongoing celebration of the franchise’s 28th and final season playing in the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome.

Stimulus projects to improve ADA accessibility statewide

ST. PAUL, Minn.-The Minnesota Department of Transportation today announced it will invest $4.5 million in transportation system improvements that address the Americans with Disabilities Act requirements for facilities on Minnesota highways throughout the state.

Oberstar Highway Trust Fund Fix

Congressman Jim Oberstar of Minnesota’s 8th Congressional District is working with the House Ways and Means Committee to come up with a permanent fix for the Highway Trust Fund that will not involve increasing the gasoline tax.

Federal Support for Local Law Enforcement

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar announced today that Minnesota will receive over $11.5 million in COPS grants for local law enforcement to hire additional officers. The funding, a component of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, will allow financially-squeezed police departments to save or create police officer jobs. Minneapolis will receive funding for 13 officers and St. Paul will receive funding for 28 officers. Other municipalities throughout the state were also awarded funds.

Pedestrian safety is everyone’s responsibility

BAXTER, Minn. — With the increase in tourists for summer vacation, the Minnesota Department of Transportation and the Department of Public Safety urge Minnesotans to take responsibility for pedestrian safety. Motorists should be alert and stop for pedestrians crossing the street at crosswalks and intersections and also for those crossing illegally. Pedestrians, especially those who are not familiar with local roads, should look for traffic in all directions before crossing the street.

Police Chief Who Worked Past Hells Angels Rallies: Be Prepared

hellsangelsThe Hells Angels biker club is coming to town. The group is hosting a rally this weekend in Carlton County with as many as 1,000 members expected. Pine County Sheriffs are bracing for some of the ralliers to make stops throughout the area, as well. One police chief who has gone through two Hells Angels rallies says there is no such thing as being over prepared.
