The U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill Thursday that includes $1.5 million for Pine Technical College. The money will fund expansion and enhancement of corrosion training simulations in conjunction with the Department of Defense. Congressman Jim Oberstar included the money for Pine Tech in the defense spending bill.

Minneapolis-Saint Paul – Governor Tim Pawlenty and Mayor R.T. Rybak invite all Minnesotans to remember the victims, first responders, and all those affected by the collapse of the Interstate 35W Bridge by observing a moment of silence at 6:05 p.m. on Saturday, August 1, the second anniversary of the collapse.

The 117th Pine County Fair is underway. Events kicked off Wednesday with a truck pull highlighting events at the Grandstand. Thursday, tractors take center stage. The antique tractor pull and tractor pull are the main attractions at the grandstand.

The 2009 Tractor Pull featured over 90 entries, according to fair board member Brent Thompson. Thompson said the turnout and entries were “great.” See the complete list of winners.

The man arrested in Harris after a high speed chase up Interstate-35 Tuesday morning has been charged. David Nelson Jr., 27, of St. Paul appeared in court Wednesday. He is charged with one felony count of fleeing an officer in a motor vehicle.

The new Rush City liquor store is set to open Thursday, August 6th. Project Manager Rory Roth of Maxxum and Rush City Administrator Amy Mell gave the city council an update on the project this week at the city council meeting. The current store will officially close Sunday at 1 a.m., with relocation beginning Monday.
