Tax Increase Kicks In July 1

The Minnesota state general sales and use tax rate increases from 6.5 percent to 6.875 percent – an increase of 3/8ths of one percent — beginning July 1, 2009.

Pregnancy Resource Center Struggling for Donations

The Pregnancy Resource Center in downtown Pine City is feeling the effects of an ailing economy. The non-profit center, which is funded entirely through donations, is struggling to stay stocked with clothes, cribs, car seats, and anything else young parents need to provide for their child. The Resource Center gives free supplies to parents who need them, but with budgets tighter, they are finding it is becoming increasingly more difficult to help everyone in need.

Mother Nature did not cooperate with Pine City’s Freedom Fest, Saturday. Rain throughout the early morning and afternoon put a damper on some activities, but crowds still came out in bunches for events like the Car Show and Children’s Activities.

The Porch Pickers entertained those in Robinson Park in downtown Pine City during Art in the Park, Friday. The Pine City Lions served hot dogs and brats. Art in the Park is one of many events taking place in Pine City during this weekend’s Freedom Fest.

Insured depositors and loan customers of Horizon Bank will automatically become depositors and customers of Stearns Bank and will retain uninterrupted services and access to their accounts.

Vikings Coming to Hinckley for Ride for Life

HINCKLEY, Minn. – Thousands of motorcyclists will hit the open road on Saturday, July 18, as part of the 15th annual Vikings’ Ride for Life event, which benefits the Vikings Children’s Fund. The charitable fund donates money to various children’s charities in Minnesota .
