Resurfacing of Highway 169 in Mille Lacs County begins June 1

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Motorists will experience a traffic switch with two-way traffic on northbound Highway 169 just north of the Rum River Rest Area to just south of Onamia starting June 1 as the Minnesota Department of Transportation begins resurfacing the southbound lanes of Highway 169.

Unemployment Drops in Burnett and Polk Counties

MADISON – Department of Workforce Development (DWD) Secretary Roberta Gassman today released April 2009 local unemployment rate estimates for Wisconsin cities, counties, and metropolitan areas.

Burnett County (State Rank: 8)

April Unemployment – 12.0%

March Unemployment – 13.2%

Polk County (State Rank: 14)

April Unemployment – 11.2%

March Unemployment – 12.5%

Governor’s Residence to Open Tours

Saint Paul — Governor Tim Pawlenty and First Lady Mary Pawlenty announced the Governor’s Residence will again open to the public for summer tours beginning Tuesday, June 2, and continuing throughout June, July, and August, on the first three Tuesdays of each month.

Deadly Driving Weekend Prompts Safety Warnings

ST. PAUL — The deadliest Minnesota Memorial Day weekend since 1996 is an urgent reminder for motorists to focus on the importance of safe driving as the state rolls into the summer driving season, according to officials from the Minnesota Department of Public Safety (DPS). DPS preliminary reports at least 12 traffic deaths over the weekend — nine on Saturday alone.

11-year-old Boy Killed in ATV Accident

An 11-year-old St. Paul boy was killed on Memorial Day, the result of an ATV accident in Lorain Township, East of the Village of Frederic.
