People driving on State Road 35 Monday night witnessed a single-family home engulfed in flames, as the Luck Fire Department monitored the burning. What looked like a cold-winter tragedy was in fact a practice burn of a mobile home at the North Side Auto Clinic, north of Luck. Fire Chief R. Nelson said the unit had been sitting on the lot of the used-car business for five years.

Pine County authorities arrested three people Saturday for attempted homicide. Danny Albert Kitterman (Middle), 43, of Mora and Connie Lyn Kitterman (Right), 44, and Jeffery Louis Thauwald (Left), 44,both of Brook Park are in custody for shooting Michael James Hughes, 31, in the chest at a residence on Rice Road in Brook Park. Investigators believe the incident stems from a late car payment.

Polk County investigators continue to look into an apparent murder suicide southeast of Luck this weekend. Police believe Rayburn Boyd, 74, killed his 66-year-old female companion, LaVonne Relander, then killed himself at a residence on East Round Lake Road in rural Luck.

Two people were injured in snowmobile accident Saturday in Pine City. Pine County Chief Deputy Steve Ovick tells Red Rock Radio that Beau Burgland, 24, and Amber Nichol, 20, both from Pine City, suffered injuries and were taken away by ambulance to the hospital after the snowmobile they were riding on hit a bank and flipped over. The severity of the injuries are not yet known. The incident happened off the river near the Red Dog Billy’s Bar and Grill off I-35.

MADISON – Assembly Speaker-elect Rep. Mike Sheridan has appointed Rep. Ann Hraychuck as a member of five committees for the upcoming session.
In addition to chairing the Assembly Fish and Wildlife Committee, Hraychuck will continue to serve on the Natural Resources Committee, Criminal Justice Committee, and the Tourism, Recreation and State Properties Committee as she did last session. New to Rep. Hraychuck’s responsibilities is the Rural Economic Development Committee.

On Christmas, one local church is hoping to make the holiday season a little brighter for families in dire need.
Becky Balk and her husband, along with New Hope Community Church, are hosting a Christmas dinner Thursday at the Minnco Community Room in Cambridge for the lonely and those in need.

Officials with President-elect Obama’s transition have indicated that investments in broadband communications infrastructure will be part of the economic stimulus and recovery plan expected in early 2009.
In anticipation of these infrastructure investments, U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar will convene a roundtable discussion, Monday, December 29th to identify key priorities for high-speed broadband Internet access and service in Minnesota, so the state can have a top-quality “21st century information infrastructure.”
