Earlier this week, a man working at the Organic Technologies Transfer and Compost Station in Minneapolis was killed while he was separating leaves from bags. The 21-year-old became engulfed in the contents. The tragic accident forced the plant to shutdown and all the rerouted material was transferred to Pine City’s OTI location.

A fund is now set up to help a Hinckley family that lost their home in a fire on October 22. Donations can be made to the Alexander Benefit Fund at the Lakestate Federal Credit Union in Hinckley.

Pine City has assembled a task force to look into the needs of the downtown area. Vacant store fronts are a concern, and the Downtown Leadership Group is determined to revive the area. Hear a complete interview with Pine City Mayor, Jane Robbins, City Administrator Don Howard, and Pine City Planner Nathan Johnson. The Downtown Leadership group will next meet on Thursday, October 30th at 8 a.m. at Sprouts Hometown Market & Gifts.

Washington DC – At 8:30 AM CDT Congressman Jim Oberstar began a hearing of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure. The purpose of the hearing is to help lay the groundwork for a national economic recovery and job creation package. Oberstar says a draft of the bill will be available when Congress reconvenes on November 17th.

Tuesday night was debate night in Pine City. Pine Technical college hosted a debate for candidates of the House of Representatives District 8B and for those running for city council and mayor in Pine City.

Four teens are facing felony charges for a series of crimes in Braham, a 14-year-old, two 16-year-olds, and 19-year old Justin Belanger. Belanger faces a pair of first degree burglary charges, as well as a second and third degree charge. The teens allegedly burglarized and damaged property of up to 12 victims and Knowles says thousands of dollars in damage.

On Saturday, October 25th, the Miss Pine City royalty traveled to Anoka to participate in the Anoka Halloween Parade. The Anoka parade encourages it’s participants to dress in a novelty theme. Miss Pine City, Jade Fedder, and Princesses Stephanie Dickey and Brietta Clementson along with Little Miss Pine City, Megan Cunnien and Princess Alaina Steele enjoyed decorating their float and choosing costumes for their “Flintstones” theme.
