Burnett County Sheriff Dean Roland plans to submit his case against Trade Lake Camp Director and Owner, Peggy Hjelseth, to the District Attorney’s Office sometime Friday. Roland is investigating the death of camper Shirley Meade, 49, who died at the camp in July. Roland is seeking first degree reckless homicide charges against Hjelseth, who he believes gave Meade the wrong medication and failed to take action once she discovered the mistake.

Meade’s death is the second incident at the camp this year. Camper Keith Kennedy went missing in June before being found alive seven days later. Roland says these are the only known incidents at the camp in its over 30 year history. The camp has been closed since Meade’s death, and Roland says it looks unlikely the camp will re-open.
However, Roland does add that an individual has inquired about reopening the camp under another license.
