Regan Kohler is the editor of the Isanti-Chisago County Star, and she makes a weekly radio appearance on WCMP to promote the latest edition of the newspaper. She visited again with our Jesse Logan, and discussed some big local stories including a recent break-in at Casey’s Gas Station in Cambridge and some progress being made in contract negotiations in the North Branch School District.

Thursday night seniors from Pine City High School took over the airwaves on 100.9FM, WCMP.
The seniors played their own music, talked about memories they had from school, and also what they will be doing once they graduate. There were also a few jokes spread out throughout the program.

This afternoon we have another high school broadcast on WCMP AM 1350.
Although playoffs are approaching in both baseball and softball, we’re finishing strong on our regular season schedule. Today, Josh Miggler will be on hand as the Cambridge-Isanti Bluejackets will host Becker in a Mississippi 8 Conference matchup. The Bluejackets are currently sitting third in the conference standings with a 6-4 record, while Becker is bringing up the rear at just 2-8 in conference play.

Pine County Sheriff Robin Cole shared more information with our listeners on Thursday morning in his regularly scheduled report. Cole had a lengthy list of items to cover in his summary of the three districts in the county. Cole visited with our Mike Hughes and Jesse Logan as usual.

The state Department of Public Instruction reported Thursday that graduation rates in Wisconsin are on the rise.
The son of former Twin Torii Hunter has his dad in a tough state.
Torii Hunter was placed on restricted leave Monday after his 17-year-old son Darius McClinton- Hunter was arrested for sexual assault.

The Pine City Dragons softball team has really been tearing the laces off of the ball of late. The girls 10-run ruled the Braham Bombers on Tuesday, winning 12-2 in just five innings. That win came one night after Pine City scored a whopping 25 runs in a road win at Aitkin.
Over the Dragons last five games, they have scored an eye-popping 85 runs and amassed a 4-1 record. It’s no wonder coach Jacob Sauter was pleased with his team when he visited with our Jesse Logan.

A 70-year-old Moose Lake woman has been honored as the Minnesota winner of an award: Rita Baresh has been chosen as the the Home Instead Senior Care® network’s Salute to Senior Service award recipient. Baresh is being recognized for her dedicated community service.

The Minnesota Legislative session may have ended, but Governor Mark Dayton is still busy singing and vetoing bills that had passed through both houses before the gavel fell.
Two new members have been appointed to the Pine City Planning Commission this year; citizens Trevor Teich and Steve Ovick.


The warm and dry conditions are currently causing Fire Departments in the listening area to be on edge. The DNR has all of Pine County under the ‘Very High’ fire danger rating because of warm and dry conditions, and officials are urging people to use extreme caution.
A committee had formed to recall Sen. Bob Jauch, a Poplar Democrat, to punish him for opposing a bill that would have jump started an iron mine south of Ashland. That committee has now suspended it’s efforts, in part, to allow volunteers to support Gov. Scott Walker in his upcoming recall election.
Regan Kohler is relatively new to the WCMP airwaves as she’s been making a weekly appearance for about a month now. Kohler is the editor of the local newspaper the Isanti-Chisago County Star, and the purpose for her weekly visit is to preview said paper.
It does look like the Vikings will be getting their new stadium. On Thursday, the Minnesota Senate approved the measure meaning only a few loose ends need to be addressed and the bill needs Gov. Mark Dayton’s signature to become law.
“We’re here to stay,” Zygi Wilf told the AP on Thursday night at a press conference.
With the democratic recall primary now in the books and the general recall election less than a month away in Wisconsin, people are beginning to consider carefully the wild 16 months since Gov. Scott Walker took office. Many experts are saying the issues that matter most to Wisconsinites may be changing when compared with what they were back at the beginning of the recall process.
On Thursday, at 12:56 a.m., the Burnett County Sheriff’s Office responded to a single-vehicle crash on North Williams Road in the Town of Wood River. This area is approximately two miles east of the Village of Grantsburg, Wisconsin. The driver, Tessa M. Leffelman, 18, of Grantsburg, was pronounced dead at the scene by Burnett County Medical Examiner Mike Maloney.
On Wednesday, a big statewide story broke involving allegations that law enforcement was giving illegal drugs to citizens, and then watching them and questioning them after these citizens got high. Officials have since put a state trooper on paid leave, launched a criminal probe into a Hutchinson officer and halted what they say was originally a police training program.A doucmentary film (inside this post) also shows officers from Kanabec County and Chisago County who were involved in the program, though no officers from those counties are currently being named in any investigations.

It will be Barrett vs Walker in the recall election on June 5. Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett had a wide margin of victory in the democratic primary to become the party’s nominee.
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources says tests show that deer with chronic wasting disease near Shell Lake did not migrate from the southern part of the state. Apparently that 3-year-old doe came from the same genetic stock tissue taken from other northern Wisconsin deer, meaning the disease may be spreading from areas where it was known into areas where it has never been before.
Chisago County Commissioner Mike Robinson called in to the station on Sunday for the first Chisago County Commissioners Report. Robinson discussed Wednesday’s Chisago County Board meeting. Among the topics covered during the report were redistricting, the first quarter budget and more.

Pine County Commissioner Steve Hallan stopped by the radio station again on Thursday to discuss Tuesday’s Pine County Board meeting. Hallan visited with news director Jesse Logan about the conversion to 800MHz radios in Pine County, the resolution to a disheveled property near Pokegama Lake and also discussed the boards unanimous decision not to redistrict.

It will soon cost more to get hunting and fishing licenses in Minnesota. Gov. Mark Dayton signed a bill on Thursday that will raise those fees raising money for other wildlife management expenses.
